Can you guess what I have been doing?

I have tried bulk cooking or freezer cooking several times. I never truly felt successful. The problem? The recipes from the bulk cooking cookbooks didn't reflect my family's tastes. It was hard work to put away meals that we really weren't happy with later on.
So this time, I tried something different. I went to the store on Thursday morning. Thursday evening, I pre-cooked the meat. The ground hamburger was browned. The chicken breasts were put in the oven to bake. A whole chicken was placed in the crockpot.
The next morning, after breakfast, I began assembling meals. These were things that I know we will like: beef stroganoff, lasagna, tortilla soup, etc. I put away sixteen meals and was finished before noon. I will definitely try this again.

Hi. I am not sure which site sent me here. Guess I visit alot. Anyway, just wanted to say congrats on getting your meals done. Its something I have always wanted to do, but just never have taken the time to try.

These meals have been wonderful already. I pulled out a casserole for Sunday. I used my delay time bake feature on my oven and our meal was waiting when we came in from church.

This prevents the "we need to go out to eats" after church.

I would really encourage everyone to try this! Let me know if I can help!

Hi Robin,

I saw your comment on Mrs. Wilt's shoutbox---I have always been fascinated with once a month cooking but have never tried it.

I was wondering....I had always heard that dishes with pasta or potatoes in them don't freeze well because they get mushy. Have you found this to be true?

Blessings,

Mrs.B,

In my lasagna, I do not pre-cook the pasta. This prevents it from getting soggy.

In other dishes, I undercook the noodles or potatoes slightly. I haven't had a complaint yet about soggy noodles or potatoes.

I hope this will inspire you. Give freezer cooking a try. Let me know if I can help!
